Are PROBIOTICS (adicophilus, bifidus, etc) penicillin based?
I work in the supplement field and someone told me that a doctor told them probiotics are penicillin based. Has anyone heard of this before? Please may I request answers that are correct and not just speculation. If possible if someone could refer me to a website or reference, that would be awesome. Thanks!

Penicillin is a class of chemicals that were originally derived from a mold genus Penicillum. Penicillin kills bacteria but not more complex organisms (like people that take it or the mold that produces it). So its an effective antibiotic… used to kill harmful bacteria that have infected you.
The Probiotics that you describe are supposedly helpful bacteria… ideally these bacteria grow inside of your digestive tract and do helpful things.
The rumor you heard makes no sense. The probiotics have nothing to do with penicillin. In fact penicillin would kill the probiotic organisms, but you dont want that to happen.
