probiotics long term use

Can discontinuing long-term antibiotic use cause diarrhea?

I’ve often heard that taking antibiotics longterm can CAUSE diarrhea (due to the killing of both the bad and good bacteria). But can stopping antibiotics cold-turkey cause diarrhea as well?

My cat had been on doxycycline for about 20 months and we just stopped it last week. He was not taking probiotics. 3-4 days after discontinuing it, he developed some nasty diarrhea.

At the same time though, we added a new medication (Cyclosporine) which may have a side effect of diarrhea, however it is not a common side effect.

I’m really not sure what exactly caused the diarrhea. Could it have been discontinuing doxycycline? Thanks for the help!
Forgot to mention that he never had diarrhea while on the doxycycline.
